The University is currently open to receiving applications for 9 undergraduate, and 2 master’s degrees.  The deadline for application to all these programmes is 31st  March 2011. Classes for the undergraduate programmes, and MSc. in Educational Management will begin on 4th April. Classes for Safaricom Academy’s MSc. in Telecommunication Innovation and Development will begin on 2nd May.

Bachelor of Business Information Technology (BBIT)
Minimum Entry Requirements for BBIT
KCSE mean grade C+ with a minimum of C+ in Mathematics and English, OR A-level with 2 principal passes and 1 subsidiary pass, plus O-level 6 credits which should include Mathematics and English. OR A Diploma in a relevant program from a recognized institution
Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications (BSc.TC), and
Bachelor of Science in Informatics (BSc.IF)
Minimum Entry Requirements for BSc. IT and BSc.IF
KCSE mean grade B with a minimum of B both in Mathematics and English. OR A-level with a minimum of two principal passes, and a minimum of a credit pass in Mathematics at O-level.

Education Financing
To help students, parents and guardians manage education financing better, Strathmore has partnered with Commercial Bank of Africa and the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation to offer low-interest loans to students pursuing degrees and diplomas at the University.
Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
Strathmore is chartered by the government of Kenya so its degree students can also get loans from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
Entrance Examination
Candidates  wishing to enroll for any of the degrees are required to sit for an entrance examination. It consists of a Mathematics and English examination and  an oral interview. Interviews  will be held from Monday to Friday beginning on 21st March 1st April. Candidates   should   report   to the  University  by  8.00am,  on  the  day  of the  interview  and  should  bring  three  passport-size   photographs,   a copy   of   national   ID, birth  certi­ficate  or  passport;  original  and photocopies  of  all  relevant  academic  and professional certificates and a KSh600 entrance examination fee.

Masters Degrees
1. Master of Science in Educational Management
The Masters in Educational Management is intended to provide a strong foundation in educational research and at the same time, provide other course units relevant for the successful management of schools and other educational institutions. It equips educational managers with transformative skills and knowledge to run and manage their institutions efficiently and effectively.
Course Duration
Two and a half years (part-time). Classes begin on 4th April 2011
Admission Requirements
A good honours degree in Education (Upper second class and above) or other related qualifications from recognized universities, considered by the Academic Council as equivalent to a First Class or Upper Second Class degree . Alternatively, a Lower Second Class degree plus postgraduate diploma with at least two years relevant work experience.
How to apply
Applicants who meet the above requirements are invited to submit their academic papers to Strathmore University Admissions Office. They will also be required to attend and pass an oral interview and an appropriate graduate entrance examination.

2. Safaricom Academy’s Master of Science in Telecommunication Innovation and Development (MSc. TID) 2011/2012 Intake

The following are eligible for admission into the Master of Science in Information Technology (MSc. TID) programme:
  • Holders of First Class or Upper Second Class Honours degrees in a Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or IT related discipline from recognised universities; or
  • Holders of other related qualifications from recognised universities, considered by the Academic Council as equivalent to a First Class or Upper Second Class degree in Computer Science or IT discipline; or
  • Holders of Lower Second Class degrees plus Postgraduate Diplomas or Certificates in Computer Science or IT; or
  • Holders of Lower Second Class degrees in Computer Science or IT, with at least two years’ working experience in a business or research environment.
  • Holders of Lower Second Class non-IT degrees, with at least two years’ practical IT working experience in a business or research environment.
In addition to meeting the above admission criteria, applicants should have:
  • Practical experience in Java Programming and Object-Oriented design.
  • Adequate knowledge of databases (MySQL, MS SQL Server, Oracle) and Database Design.
  • Experience handling SMS APIs will be an added advantage.
  • Be self-motivated and have a strong interest in Mobile Application development as a career.
Candidates will also need to attend a personal interview and submit the following documents with their applications:
  • A one page résumé detailing why they think they are suitable for consideration.
  • Two reference letters one of which must be academic and the other professional.
Fee Structure
Safaricom Academy will provide scholarships that cover the tuition fee.  Students admitted to the course will have to pay Kshs2,500 to confirm their admission. Applicants finishing their degrees by end of April should attach their 1st, 2nd and 3rd Year transcripts as they wait for the official final year results. The course begins on 2nd May 2011.
